It is the traditional ultrasound that has been used for years. They are soundwaves that are used to create black and white images of your baby’s bones, gender, heart, and movements that are seen during the ultrasound session.
3D / 4D Live Ultrasound uses the same frequency as your doctor uses in the normal 2D ultrasound. 3D ultrasounds give you a much clearer and sharper look at your baby and you’ll even get a sense of whether your little one has your nose or your partner’s. A 3D ultrasound is performed like any other ultrasound. First, the technician will rub gel on your belly and then move a transducer across the area. The transducer directs the sound waves toward your uterus and the baby inside it, giving you a picture of your developing baby.
It is a combination of high definition volume data with color and clarity that allow you to see the baby inside the womb.
For best results we recommend to come in between 27 and 33 weeks.
After that, the quality of the ultrasound is no longer guaranteed due to the baby’s size.
However, you are very welcome to come in. Babies at this stage are usually too big and squeeze into the uterus leaving us no room to work with. We will still try our best to get you the best pictures. In most cases we will get great images if the baby has great amniotic fluid and the placenta is no where near the face, but we will not know until the ultrasound. Remember that every woman and pregnancy is different, so whatever works with one may not work with the other.
We recommend all patients to drink lots of water days prior to your appointment. About 64oz of water a day. We also advise you to have something sweet minutes prior to coming in.
With an Ultrasound you need to be at least 15 weeks
With a Blood test from 8 weeks with next day results
